Full Description
E229:
This jetty is the present site of docking for the tow ferries running services to Eriskay from South Uist and Barra. It takes the form of two slipways making an L shape. The main slip, measuring 59 x 8.5 metres is orientated from north north-west to south south-east and has a large wooden jetty or pier constructed on its west side. This acts as a breakwater, a mooring dock and gives access to a red navigation light at its north end. The second slipway, running from west south-west to east north-east measures 40 x 3.5 metres. Both are constructed of concrete. Situated 100 metres to the west is a second red navigation light and associated building.
Interpretation: This jetty system was constructed at the time of the commissioning of the new ferry during 1979.
Impact Detail: The south-western corner of this jetty is on the line of the proposed approach road for the causeway. The second navigation light is located directly on the line of the road.
