Full Description

E 231:
Constructed of stone and turf this cellular structure is located at the neck of the narrow headland between the harbour at Haun, E 235, and the harbour of Port Dhugaill, E 232. Orientated from north-west to south-east, this feature measures 5.5 x 4.4 metres, is oval in shape and has an entrance on its north-eastern side.
Interpretation: The purpose or date of this feature are unclear. It may be specifically located to cut the neck of the promontory on which it is situated either for habitation or agricultural/ transhumance reasons, or alternatively ot might relate to the marine industry associated with Port Dhugaill to the east.
