Full Description

E 267:
This short wall is 3 metres long and runs from north north-west to south south-east. Its height is about 60 cm, and it is slightly grown over. It is attached to an overhanging rock in the cliff face. It is situated on a small flat area, but within half a metre from the wall a fairly steep slope falls down in the direction of the shore but only for about 2 metres. Then another platform follows with E 268 - E270.
Interpretation: The shelter the wall forms with the overhanging rock was or is probably used in medieval to crofting times (and today??). However, this site could probably have been used as a rock shelter in prehistoric (mesolithic?????) times. It is possible that deposits of these early times are still buried in the infill of that shelter. The location would be ideal for such a prehistoric rock shelter: It is overlooking Acairseid Mhor and the entrance to the open sea.
