Full Description

E 269:
This blackhouse is orientated from north-west to south-east and measures 10.5 x 6.1 metres. It is in a good condition save the absence of a roof, the walls stand almost 2 metres tall, and mortar has been used on both sides of the wall. Furtermore, the doorway in the centre of the western wall as well as two windows on both sides of that wall and another window opposite the entrance are clearly visible. On the north-western end wall a fireplace with chimney is located.
Interpretation: Due to the good condition of this house and the use of mortar as well as the single entrance in the centre of a long wall, it is most likely more recent in date, probably post medieval of crofting. The location of this blackhouse is amongst the small group of buildings near to the north shore of Acairseid Mhor, being the most modern one.
