Full Description

E 270:
This structure is heavily ruined and grown over. Its overall dimensions are 14.5 x 5.8 metres, the height of walls or their thickness cannot be measured due to its grown over state. This remains of a house are orientated from north north-west to south south-east, and a possible entranceway is to the north. No internal architectuer is visible. The shape of this structure is not very regular, it has right angle corners on its north-western side, but its south-eastern side appears to be rounded. The floor of this structure is raised from the surrounding ground. It is situated approximately 20 metres north-west of blackhouse E 269.
Interpretation: This structure is much more elongated and totally different in shape from the other buildings seen in this survey. That and its heavily grown over condition would suggest a greater antiquity, probably norse. Its location near to Acairseid Mhor would support this date. If it was once built with stone walls, they probably were robbed and used to built the houses nearby.
