Full Description

E 277:
The dimensions of this relatively small ruined house are 5.3 x 6.7 metres. It is orientated from west north-west to east south-east. The walls are quite low (80-90cm) and partly collapsed and turfed/ grown over. The doorway to this house is on the eastern side. The interior of this building is now filled with debris and vegetation. It has an ancillary structure to its western side, which has a single entrance on the southern side. 9 - 10 metres to the north-west blackhouse E 276 is situated. They both stand on relatively flat area, on an otherwise rocky slope.
Interpretation: This house seems to be older, because its walls and the interior are completely turfed over and the surviving walls are quite low. Probably this structure provided the building material for blackhouse E 276. It is quite possible, that this house was never ment to live in, because its rooms are very small. It could have also been a barn or storage building for the newer blackhouse E 276.
