Full Description

E 287:
This partly surviving enclosure or yard measures 10.6 x 10.5 metres. Only two sides are visible today and the walls are partly running over a stone outcrop. The enclosure is located adjacent to the modern house (concrete walls, but probably older structures beneath it), so one side of the enclosure is formed by the back wall of the house. The structure is mostly overgrown with grass and turf, but the stones are still visible from the outside. The area within the enclosure is higher than the surrounding ground and leveled out.
Interpretation: This enclosure is definitely older than the modern house, to which it lies adjacent to. However, it is possible that there are older remains of a blackhouse beneath the modern house, and that this enclosure once belonged to the blackhouse. It was then probably used as a gardening area (to grow vegetables?). It must have been important to the inhabitants of the house to create a level plateau. This enclosure could have also been used by the inhabitants of the modern house (which is now abandoned) until quite recently.
