Full Description

E 316:
This house is situated on a faint slope near the coastline. Its dimensions are 6 x 5.2 metres and its walls stand up to 1.2 metres high, but are partly collapsed and covered with turf. A doorway is located in the centre of the southern short wall.
Interpretation: This house stands just 3 metres apart from house E 317, which has similar dimensions and a similar 'look'. Therefore, these buildings are likely to be contemporary. House E 316 is smaller than the 'normal' blackhouses in that area, so it might have rather been a storage building. Another, different possibility is that house E 316 was used for living in it and the smaller house E 317 was used as a shelter for sheep and/ or storage room.
