Full Description

E 323:
This blackhouse with rounded corners and thick walls ( 0.9 - 1.0 metres) measures 13 x 5.5 metresand is orientated from north to south. The walls stand very low and are nearly completely covered with turf, but originally they had probably an earthen core. The house is situated on a platform and stands just 9 metres to the north of a modern house. A doorway is located in the northern corner of the eastern long wall.
Interpretation: The entrance in a corner of the house suggest a rather early (Medieval) date, this theory is supported by the bad condition of the walls. On the other hand, this house is quite big for a Medieval date. That could mean, that this house dates to the transition between Medieval and Post Medieval, having characteristics from both times. This house is probably associated with the enclosure to the north, E 324.
