Full Description

E 339:
This blackhouse is situated on a platform relatively near to the coastline. The dimensions of this from north to south orientated house are 10 x 4 metres and it is divided in two rooms with seperate entrances. The bigger room has a doorway on the southern half of its long west wall. The smaller room can be entered through a doorway in the centre of its northern wall. The walls of this house stand between 1 - 1.8 metres high, are 90 cm thick and partly covered with turf. The house E 340 stands just 8 metres to the east, and house E 338 is located 9 metres to the north.
Interpretation: The division of this house suggests a rather late date (Post Medieval), while the entrance on one side of a long wall indicates an early date as well as the relativaly small size of the house. This house was probably built during the transition between Medieval and Post Medieval times.
