Full Description

E 343:
This blackhouse is situated on a plateau overlooking the lower land down to the coastline and the Sound of Eriskay. The house consists of two rooms with seperate entrances on opposing sides. It is orientated from south to north and the doorway of the bigger room is located in the centre of its western long wall while the entrance to the smaller room lies on the eastern side of the house. The overall measurements of this blackhouse are 14.5 x 7 metres and the walls are up to 1.2 metres high but partly collapsed and covered with turf.
Interpretation: This house seems to date to the Post Medieval period, this is suggested by the division of the house in two rooms and the relatively big overall dimensions.
