Full Description

E 345:
This blackhouse measures 11 x 6 metres and its walls are up to 1.7 metres high, some mortar is visible on the outside of the walls and there is no turf visible on them. Partly the walls are collapsed. Furthermore the house consists of two chimneys, one on each short wall, two windows on the front, which are blocked with stones now and a doorway in the centre of the eastern long wall. The building is orientated from north to south.
Interpretation: This blackhouse most likely dates into the late Post Medieval or Crofting period. The chimneys, the windows in the front wall, the doorway in the centre of the long wall and the height of the wall and the mortar used on the walls suggest this date. The cultivation area E 344, which is located 60 metres to the west, could belong to this house.
