Full Description

E 355:
This site of a shieling and associated wall is situated on a small platform on a ridge. The shielings' walls stand very low and are completely covered with turf and long grass, occasionally a stone of the wallbase is visible. It measures approximately 4 x 4.5 metres and has rounded corners, an entrance is to be seen in the western wall. An associated wall starts at the north-western corner of the shieling and runs for 6.5 metres in a northerly direction. This wall is covered with turf, too.
Interpretation: This shieling was used as a dwelling during the summer-month by those tending the herds and flocks, which were brought to the higher or more remote pastures. It could date to Medieval or Post Medieval times. The wall associated with the shieling could have belonged to a bigger enclosure (E 356), used for stock management and/or processing of dairy products.
