Full Description

E 368:
The dimensions of this house are 5.5 x 8 metres and the walls just stand 50 cm high and are mostly covered with turf, but the double walling with smaller stones between the big stones is still visible at some places. The building is orientated from east to west and a doorway is located in the centre of its northern long wall. The sturcture is situated on a faint slope, overlooking a small bay to the north and over to South Uist. 12 metres to the north house E 369 is located, and 30 metres to the south house E 367 can be seen.
Interpretation: This house probably dates to Medieval or early Post Medieval times. The size of the house and the bad condition of the walls suggest a Medieval date, while the location of the door coud be a hint to Post Medieval times. This house was probably dismantled to provide building material for the newer blackhouse E 367 just a few metres to the south. (Did the same family built and then moved to the newer house while destroying the older??)
