Full Description

E 385:
This blackhouse measures 11 x 6 metres, has rounded corners and is roughly orientated from north to south. The walls stand up to 2.35 meters high, big stones were used and arranged very accurate . A doorway and two windows on each side of the entrance are located in the eastern long wall. The height of the doorway is 2.1 metres. Another window is interrupts the wall opposite of the doorway and a fourth window is located on the southern wall next to one of the chimneys. The other chimney was constructed on the northern gable end. Mortar is visible on the outer side of the walls.
Interpretation: This house is quite big and shows all the signs of a house being built in late Post Medieval times, or, more likely Crofting times. The windows the chimneys and the heigh doorway support that date. Furthermore, this house seems to represent the living area of a rich family, it is probably to be seen as an 'Estate House', built by the landowner.
