Full Description

E 387:
This house consists of one big room (living area) and two side structures next to each short wall of the big room. The house is orientated from west to east. The main room measures 9.5 x 7.3 metres. The walls stands up to 1.65 metres high, bends slightly inwards and is 1 metre thick. A doorway is located in the eastern half of the southern side. The side structure on the western side of the main room measures 3.7 x 6.5 metres. An entrance to that structure is not visible and the walls stand quite low (60 cm), are partly collapsed, turfed over and 80 cm thick. The side structure on the eastern side measures 6.5 x 5.3 metres. It has an entrance in the centre of its southern long wall. The walls of this structure also stand very low and are partly turfed over. The building is situated on a platform 70 metres north of the coastline.
Interpretation: This house probably dates to the transition between Medieval and Post Medieval times. The location of the doorway hints to Medieval times, but the size of the main room and also the side structures seem to suggest a Post Medieval date. It is also possible, that the side structures fell out of use before the house itself was abandoned, because the height of the walls is different.
