Full Description

E 397:
This blackhouse measures 10.3 x 6 metres. It is orientated from north-west to south-east and the walls stand up to 1.8 metres high, but at some places they are collapsed. A doorway is located in the centre of the north-eastern long wall and a chimney can be found on the south-eastern short wall. The house is situated on a faint slope overlooking Acairseid Mhor (wonderful view). House E 398 is situated 8 metres to the east. Both houses stand quite near to the coastline approximately 10 metres above sea level.
Interpretation: This blackhouse was probably built in the Post Medieval period, the location of the doorway and the chimney indicate that. The house E 398 is likely to be contemporary.
