Full Description

E 399:
This house is situated on a probably artificially created platform overlooking Acairseid Mhor. The surrounding vegetation is short grass, as the area is now used for sheep grazing. The orientation is from west to east. The house consists of a big room, measuring 8.3 x 7 metres and a smaller structure adjacent to the eastern short wall of the big room. This smaller room measures 5 x 3.4 metres. The walls of the main room stand up to 1.5 metres high, while the walls of the small room are slightly lower. The doorway to the big room is located on the northern corner of the eastern short wall. the entrance to the side structure is located on its north-western corner. A modern house is situated 20 metres to the west. The inhabitants of the modern house use the ruined blackhouse as a storage room for wood/ rubbish etc.
Interpretation: This house probably dates to Medieval times, as the location of the doorway suggests.
