Full Description

E 402:
This house measures 6 x 6 metres and is orientated from north to south. Its walls stand about 1 metre high, but are partly collapsed and turfed over. An entrance is located in the centre of the eastern wall. The remains of another structure are located 0.5 metres to the north. The short walls of that structure continue the walls of the house for 3.5 metres. A wall parallel to that of the house and 6.5 metres long closes this three-walled sturcture. The walls of the side sturcture are nearly completely turfed over and stand 50 cm low.
Interpretation: This house seems to belong to the blackhouse E 401, 10 metres to the north-east. It could have been used as a storage room or shelter for animals. This house was probably built on the base of an older structure, represented by the grown over remains to the north of the house.
