Full Description
E 411:
This blackhouse is situated on a platform in a very small valley, which runs downslope in an easterly direction. It is overlooking Acairseid Mhor which can be seen in a distance. The house measures 11.6 x 6.2 metres and is orientated from north to south. The walls stand up to 1.7 metres high, but are partly collapsed and turfed over. They are 1 metre thick. A doorway can be seen in the centre of the eastern long wall. One window on each side of the doorway is located on the same wall. An inner division wall creates two rooms in this house. This wall stands just 50 cm high, it is collapsed and overgrown. A chimney is located at the northern short wall. Today, nettles grow inside this building. The cultivation area E 413 lies in fron of the house (to the east), just 7 metres apart. Another building, E 412 is located 30 metres to the east in the same small valley.
Interpretation: This house shows signs of being built in Post Medieval times: The location of the door and the windows, as well as the fireplace. and the inner division. It seems most likely that the smaller house E 412 and the cultivation area E 413 both belong to the blackhouse.
