Full Description

E 426:
This possible stone setting is situated near the west coast of Eriskay between Heinish in the south and Uamh Lice Ruaidhe in the north. A cliff is located 15 - 20 metres to the north, the stone setting itself stands of a faint slope down to the sea. The stone setting consists of at least 5 stones, which are set in a rough circle. Only the tops of the stones are visible, the peat-growth covers the lower part of the stones. It can therefore not be said how big the stones are. The visible upper part of the stones vary between 50 - 80 cm. Near to this stones natural stone outcrop is located, which could fit in with the circle.
Interpretation: This site of a roughly circular stone setting is not certain. It is difficult to distiguish between deliberately set stones and the natural stone outcrops, which can be found all over the island, especially in the peat-growth areas. Only an excavation at this site could provide the facts, which are needed to confirm this stone setting.
