Full Description

E 430:
This enclosure survives only partly. It is situated 80 metres from the eastern coastline of the island south of Rubha Basadearn and north of Glen Stulavaig. A small stream runs down to the sea just 3 metres to the north-east. The structure is orientated from north-west to south-east, but only the north-eastern long wall (7 metres) and the south-eastern short wall (4 metres) survive. The other long wall is provided by rocky cliffs. The walls stand 60 - 70 cm high and are mostly collapsed and turfed over. A possible entrance is located on the south-eastern wall, near to the cliff. The surrounding vegetation is short grass, as the area is now used for sheep grazing.
Interpretation: This partly surviving enclosure could provide a shelter for boats or fishing equipment, as its location is quite near to the sea. It can be compared with the enclosures seen along the coast in this survey, E 425 and E 427.
