Full Description
Substantial bank running between the Bagh an Ackara and Loch Fada na Gearrachun; c. 2.5m wide x up to 1m high; contains many breaks, some of which appear to be original; field banks V79 and V83 spring from it; at Bagh an Ackara the bank continues as a rubble spread across a shallow channel and a small island within the bay (Eilean an Acaire), before ending on its N shore almost at the low water mark. Beveridge (1911) recorded that the Western side of Eilean na Acaire was enclosed by a semicircular wall visible much below the high water mark. There is now no trace of this feature. The substantial size of V81 suggests that it formed an important landscape feature, such as a township boundary between Griminsh and Vallay. The character of the post-medieval settlement and field systems are different to either side of it.
