Full Description

A distinct knoll at the SE corner of Geirisclett is enclosed by a wall up to 1m wide and 1.5m high. Indefinite signs of buried walls can be traced on the summit of the knoll. Several stone arrangements are present on the slopes of the knoll - some are clearance cairns whereas others are linear and appear to be kelp (?) tangle racks. The course of the enclosing wall is generally as mapped on OS 1881, although certain additional details were noted by field survey: a) the wall returns from the W for 15m along the NE side of the knoll, immediately above the foreshore, and appears as a sinuous grassed bank; b) evidence of sequence can be detected at the S angle, where the wall is approached by bank V87 - the enclosure wall here has a discrete external loop, a gap in the end of which defines an entrance to the enclosure. A bothy built of reused walling has obscured the relationship between V87 and the enclosure wall; c) within the enclosure the residential remains of a boulder alignment up to 1m wide and 0.6m high appear approximately to project northwards the alignment of field bank V87, suggesting that this feature predates, and was latterly incorporated into, the enclosure.
