Full Description

While carrying out fieldwalking & preliminary survey of Airigh nam Bèiste (off the Pentland Road) with the YAC on 27.1.2001, the group discovered a possible sub-peat hut circle at NB 3647 3430. Overall diameter c. 4.8m (Int. diameter c.2m). Entrance or doorway apparently on the southern, downslope side. Walls survive to a maximum of 0.4m above interior. This feature lies c. 35m to the west of a group of three shielings occupying the west bank of 'Allt Airigh na Beiste', and appears to have been exposed as a result of peat-cutting during the latter period of use of the shielings (later 19th/early 20th C). About 0.5m of peat appears to have been removed from the hut circle.
Carol Knott, 29.1.2001
