Full Description

L15 (NF697007) Oval stone structure with a small rectangular annexe and an appended circular structure to the west. The site stands on a small knoll at the foot of a steep south-facing slope. The oval structure has a wall 0.75 m wide, stone-faced with an earth core, and measures 4.5 x 3.8 m overall. The entrance appears to be at the north-east corner. To the south is a rectangular annexe, 3 x 1.3 m, entered by a narrow door. This hut is very well embedded, and has been partly robbed and built over by a circular structure to the west. This is about 1.8 m diam. and has a wall of loose stone blocks. It clearly sits on an earlier heavily embedded foundation 3.8 m diam., the construction of which is similar to that of the oval structure. The upper of the two circular structures is a shelter type C. The lower and the adjoining oval hut are clearly considerably older. Excavated. Report in SEARCH volume 6.
