Full Description

PY46 (NL60388716) Well.
Location: On slope inside wet dyke.
Description: Rectangular single cell, 3.2 x 2.1 m, drystone box with three visible standing courses. This well or water catchment box is constructed on the lower slope of a dyke channel in a position where it can best accumulate the rain water run off from up-slope. The bottoms of these dyke channels always contain some running water even in summer, as they act as drains for the water-logged peat and blanket bog reservoirs that occupy the high ground of the island.
