Full Description

MY5 (NL57098357) Shieling.
Location: Edge of plateau bench on hillside.
Description: Rectangular, 7.5 x 4.8 m, earth and stone walls internally stone-faced. consists of small living room with fireplace built into the west wall and a bench seat along the side of the dividing compartment wall. An entrance through this wall leads to an external entrance in the north wall. The eastern end of the building is divided up with cross walls of single stones set on edge making three small stalls for sheep.
Note: Fully excavated. Report in SEARCH volume 6. A fragmented iron spade, possible for digging peat, was found in the excavations.
