Full Description
MY 79 (NL56518294) House (modern).
Location: Cliff edge bench.
Description: MY79 is a modern house two storeys high built with stone gable ends of quarried stone fixed with mortar that incorporate a fireplace and chimney stack. In contrast the other walls were constructed of only corrugated iron sheets fixed on a timber framework. This style of the late 19th century is found elsewhere on the islands. This, Mingulay's sole example, however, does not stand, and lies as two great fallen reminders of the power that can be unleashed by the Hebridean wind, a storm of 1989 in fact (Buxton 1995).
