Full Description
MY344: Complex of wheel-house and shelter. Lower hill-slope of valley. Circular, mostly collapsed and displaced stonework except for small area that showns lower curved walling of large stone blocks. A modern shelter is constructed on top of the earlier site and uses stone taken from it.
MY344a: wheelhouse. Circular, 12m diam., located to one side at the back of skipisdale valley, aloof from the other major sites on the valley floor. It is a very visible site being surrounded by bright green vegetation that targest s considerable mass of displaced stonework. A modern shelter (b) has been erected in the centre of the mass. Around the shelter the general impression is of total chaos with displace dstonework at all angles. However, at ground level a number of arge blocks of stone can be seen forming the edge of a large disc-shaped structure. No internal features can be recognised but the structure is most likely a wheelhouse.
MY344b: shelter. Oval, 2.5 x 2m, single cell with drystone walls of several courses, 1.5m high, built in the 1920s (Buxton 1995).
