Full Description

BY57: Balckhouse (a) with barn (b). Low on slope to coast edge. Rectangular, 10.3 x 6.1m, possibly double-cell, improved blackhouse (a) with 1m thick round-cornered walls, entrance to the north, 3.2m from the west end corner, and a collapsed fireplace set in the east end wall. A single stone internal division, just west of the entrance, is set north-south making a slight revetment to a raised platform in the west end. A single-cell drystone barn, 4 x 3.3m square, also with an entrance to the north, is butted to the west extyernal wall of the blackhouse. The complex is built on a platform into the hillside. A hollow saddle quern is placed in front of the north blackhouse wall.
