Full Description

A settlement mound, part of the complex of sites on Paible headland, Taransay. The mound shows as an exposed, mounded surface of shell, stone and pottery, suffering wind erosion but no direct marine erosion as yet. It is in the main access from the shore to the township, and exposed to direct traffic erosion. No structures are presently visible, and no dateable pottery has been found on the site yet. It lies between an eroding Beaker & Viking Age site to the east, and the main settlement mound (Paible 1) to the west.

Structure (009)
A stone setting, cut into the sand, was identified and cleaned. The structure represents the fragmented remains of a cist from which a small amount of bone and pottery were recovered. The fill of the cist appeared to be wind blown sand, and represents post-depositional fill.
