Full Description

VS7 (NL625945) A cairn, diam. 8.4 m, with kerb-stones showing around much of the perimeter. Kerbed cairn. Excavated in 1995, and a report appears in Chapter 5.
Brannigan and Foster 2000, 50

NB When the cairn was excavated, it was shown that the cairn was clearly constructed to contain a single cremation, probably a male. It was constructed directly on the existing ground surface in an area that was probably pastrure. 18 sherds of pottery were recovered, of different fabric to VS4, and dated by Optically Stimulated Luminescence by Ian Bailiff at Uni Durham to 4,000 years BP +/- 500. RCB 25/4/03
