Full Description
VS63 (NL641940) A substantial earth/sand bank, running north-south across the saddle east of Ben Cuier. It was traced for about 550 m, its southern terminus at the point where it meets a rock formation. The southern section of the bank is 4-5 m wide and still stands 2 m high and runs for about 400 m. There is then a 15 m gap before another bank begins and swings slightly north-west to run for about 150 m downhill towards East Bay. This northern section of bank is quite different in character, being only some 1-1.5 m wide, steep-sided, and punctuated by occasional stone uprights. The bank has clearly been considerably weathered and naturally modified, particularly in its southern section, but its date is uncertain. Although it does not, apparently, reach either the north or south coast of southern Vatersay, it does appear to be a significant boundary between Eorisdale/Am Meall and the rest of the island to the west.
