Full Description

"Located at the east end of Loch Dubh, this drystone structure runs in a north-westerly direction into the loch for 7 metres. It is 1 metre wide and stands 0.5 metres clear of the current water level. There is no apparent shoreline structures relating to this feature, suggesting that it was constructed specifically to allow better access to the loch for fishing. An alternative interpretation for this might be that it is part of the stock management field system (1) which covers much of this survey area; acting as a groin to prevent stock crossing the shallows at the point where an unnamed burn enters Loch Dubh immediately to the south. Several of the turf dykes associated with this field system terminate against this unnamed burn, which is quite deep and would act as a barrier to most stock." (Burgess 2004, 24)
