Full Description

"The fragmentary remains of this rectilinear sheiling lie immediately to the south of the dyke 1.9, on the west facing slopes above the east end of Loch Dubh. Constructed of turf, with an internal stone toe, or lining, it measures 4 metres from north to south and 3 metres from west to east, internally it measures 2.5 x 2 metres. With its north end butting directly onto dyke 1.9 it has a possible entrance located at the north end of the west wall, though the remains are so fragmentary it is impossible to say whether this is a genuine feature or the result of erosion." "Located on the west facing slopes above the eastern end of Loch Dubh this group of three sheilings gives an indication of an area of transhumance farming, pointing to the location of an area of summer grazing. Consisting of two rectilinear turf and stone structures - likely to date to the pre-crofting/crofting phase of activities, and one earlier curvilinear turf and stone structure that is likely to date to the medieval/post-medieval period - the group is likely to represent just a small proportion of the transhumance activity in the area, much of which may lie outwith the 2003 study area to the east." (Burgess 2004, 25-6)
