Full Description

"Situated at the foot of the northern slopes of Sideval, overlooking the southern end of Loch na Muilne, are the fragmentary remains of a tree stump/roots likely to be the remains of a pine tree, buried at the bottom of the peat horizon where it interfaces with the post-glacial till. The location of this stump within the soil horizon suggests that it dates to early prehistory, to the period after the ice had retreated at the end of the last Ice Age but before peat growth commenced in any meaningful fashion." (Burgess 2004, 48)
