Full Description

"Situated on a platform at the foot of the cliffs on the west side of Cnoc an Breach, to the north of Loch Dubh, the remains of this enclosure measure 6 x 4 metres and are orientated from north to south. Oval/boat-shaped in form the remains of this structure consist of edge set stones protruding through the peat. No internal features or entrances can be identified relating to this structure, however, probing indicates that it is buried in at least 0.5 metres of peat. The fact that this enclosure is buried in peat suggests that it was constructed in antiquity between, at the latest the Norse phase and, at the earliest the late prehistoric. The form of this feature, boat or oval shaped, suggests that its origin may be Norse. Regardless of this the location suggests these features are not a primary settlement but rather the summer end of transhumance economy - a sheiling. This enclosure is located 3 metres to the south of another enclosure (44.2) of similar form." (Burgess 2004, 121-122)
