Full Description

"Situated on a small headland on the northern shore of croft 34 the remains of four or more kilns or cellular structures may be seen. Taking the form of emphemeral circles of stones between 1 and 2.5 metres in diameter these features are hard to define. The location and form of these features suggest that they are the remains of kelp burning kilns related to the boom in kelp processing industry for chemicals in the last years of the 18th century and the first years of the 19th century." (Burgess 2004, 143)
