Full Description

"Situated at the foot of the north facing slopes above the south-western shore of Loch Cromore, the remains of this blackhouse measure 10 x 6 metres and are orientated from north to south. The walls, constructed of stone facing with an earthen core, are heavily collapsed and robbed and stand to no more than 0.6 metres. Internally the floor is largely obscured by piles of rubble consisting of facing stone and soil from the wall cores. A single entrance can be seen in the centre of the west facing wall, which would have given access to the dwelling at the southern (uphill) end of the house and the byre at the northern (downhill) end. While no ancillary structures can be seen in the immediate vicinity, barn/sheiling (33.26/45.3) is located 15 metres to the south-west. This blackhouse is of the form typical of the late pre-crofting and early crofting period in the Lochs area. Its location currently falls outwith the extent of enclosed croft land which lies less than 10 metres to the north. This may be due to changing apportionment boundaries or may indicate that this house was constructed before apportionment commenced." (Burgess 2004, 146)
