Full Description
"Situated on the steep western slopes of Sorval, overlooking the eastern shore of Loch Cromore, the substantial remains of this enclosure are located on a small shelf 18 metres above the loch's surface. Measuring 6 x 5 metres internally and standing to a maximum height of 1.5 metres the walls are constructed of stone and turf and are up to 2 metres wide. Orientated from north to south along the hill slopes there is a possible entrance on the southern side, and internally there is some suggestion of cells constructed of turf. The location, size and form of this enclosure suggest a feature that dates at least to the medieval period and perhaps as far back as the late prehistoric. Certainly it is of a type not previosly recorded as having been constructed during the pre-crofting and crofting phase and its location is in an area that for the last 200-300 years at least has been used as seasonal (summer) pasture and rough grazing. Unfortunately this structure was heavily overgrown with bracken at the time of the curvey making more detailed examination difficult." (Burgess 2004, 151-152)
