What may be two unroofed shieling-huts are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Island of Lewis, Ross-shire 1853, sheet 25), but they are not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1974).
Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 29 September 1997.
These structures are not sheilings. They comprise of a large rectangular stone and turf walled building that occupies the small isthmus. This structure appears to have been dug into the existing surface. The approximate dimensions are 12m x 6 m. Nearby to the north west is a smaller secondary structure, an irregular square shaped feature with turf and stone walls; possibly a store. Dimensions 4mx4m. The rest of the island shows evidence of cultivation ridging over it. It seems likely these structures represent a farmstead.
