Two main phases of settlement are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Island of Lewis, Ross-shire 1853, sheet 12). In addition an extensive system of head-dykes (NB24SW 60), which may be partly associated with this township, lies to the SE.
The primary phase comprises eight scattered groups of buildings (see NB24SW 33.01-04 and .06-08) of which one group in particular is largely roofed (NB24SW 33.05).
The secondary phase comprises two crofting townships to the W and E, both of which are built along the public roadss (NB24SW 33.09, .11).
Further improvements shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1975) has resulted in a large crofting township occuping the area of the pre-improvement settlement.
A corn-drying kiln has also been recorded within the township (see NB24SW 6).
