Loch Mor a'Chocair, the remains of three shieling huts
Two roofed buildings are shown on the OS 1st ed map (1849-52). Neither are shown on the OS 2nd ed (1895) or the current ed (1973), but both are visible on vertical aerial photgraphs from 1946, as is a third building.
B026 NB 34999 34578
The footings of a hut above the north shore of Loch Mor a'Chocair, possibly the westerly of the two buildings on the OS 1st ed map, though not on the same scale as the long building shown there. Not well preserved, but the visible remains seem to be a small square structure c. 2m x 2m.
B027 NB 35182 34508
The footings of a recvtangular hut, aligned N-S, c. 4m x 2m across walls up to 1m in width, 1m high. The walls are probably close to their original height, and are externally battered (they may have had a turf outer skin). Two opposed entrances towards the south end of the long walls, with a possible division wall immediately to the north of them. Ground level cupboards in each of the 3 walls to the north of the entrances, the cupboard in the north wall being blocked. Possible platform against the wall in the south-east corenr
B080 NB 35066 34545
Poorly preserved hut on a turf mound, c. 4m x 2m.
