Full Description
Three bay blackhouse style cottage with central entrance and later central porch. Cement mortared walls with harling to porch. Square headed window openings with stone and concrete lintels, recessed two and four pane wooden sash windows throughout. Thatched roof with turf lining secured with rope, stone weights & chicken wire, chimney stackes to northern gable end and south central internal location. Corragated iron sheets to porch with plastic rainwater fittings
This building has had various modifications and would appear to have been lived in till relitively recently (1980's?). The building is now poor condition, some window panes are gone and the thatched roof is failing in several places.
The 6" 1st ed Ordnance Survey map sheet (1878) indicates a farmstead located down a long access track; it comprising of 4 roofed buildings and several enclosures. The house is now the only upstanding building that remains; however the ruins of the other structures are visible on the ground. The enclosures are almost intact and comprise of drystone walls and revetting, there are possible remains of several nausts in the reveted area, west of the house.
