28 September 1853, DUEN, of Christiansand, sloop, 40 ton, 4 men, Christiansand to Liverpool, deals, wind W force 9, stormy, insured at Christiansand, cargo insured at London, wrecked. South Uist, on the north side of the Sound of Eriskay, by stress of weather. Lloyds Agent.

NMRS, MS/829/67 (no. 458).
Baleshare is not noted on the 1997 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map; the location cited is essentially tentative and the loss may have occurred on map sheet NF89SW. This loss is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).
