WILLIAM FLOUNDERS, Barge, from Limerick to Liverpool, is totally lost near South Uist. Crew saved.

(No classification specified: cargo cited as wheat and date of loss as 1 March 1818). The William Flounders or, possibly, William Hounders, was stranded in the Bay of Vatersay. Capt. Barge. Registration: Liverpool.

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary. The recorded intended route of the vessel suggests that the stranding took place on the Atlantic coast of the island, rather than within the Minch.
It is unclear to which Vatersay island Whittaker refers.
