20 January 1878, DEIOPEA, 13 yrs old, of Chester, wooden brig, 291 tons, 10 crew, Master T. Davies, Owner R. Grandidge, Chester, departed Langesund for Chester, carrying pit props, wind SSW10, stranded, Loch Skiport, Uist Island, Hebrides.

Glasgow, 25th Jan., the DEIOPIA (brig), of Chester, Davies, from Langesund to Connah's quay, with timber, was driven ashore at South Uist, 20th Jan.: and was expected to become a total wreck: crew saved.

Balranald, Lochmaddy, 28th Jan., 12.50 p.m., the brig DEIOPEA, of and for Chester, from Norway, timber laden, was driven ashore from her anchor at Lochskiport, in South Uist, on the 20th inst., and is likely to become a total wreck: crew saved. Owner Richard Grandidge, Hoole Road, Chester, England. [Record received incomplete].
