10 June 1879, CHIEFTAIN'S BRIDE, 13 yrs old, of Fraserburgh, iron steamship, 60 tons, 6 crew, Master A. Milne, Owner J. and T. Park, Fraserburgh, departed Castle Bay, Barra, for Stornoway, carrying salt, empty barrels and one passenger, wind variable, stranded, total loss, Castle Bay, Barra, Hebrides.

Stornoway, June 16, CHIEFTAIN'S BRIDE (s), of Fraserburgh, left this place 8th inst., bound for Castle Bay, Island of Barra, with 200 barrels of salt and 600 empty barrels. Reached Castle Bay in safety at 5 a.m., the following day. After discharging the greater portion of her cargo at three different fishing stations, proceeded at 9.30 for the fourth station, when she took the ground. On examination she was found to have 1 foot of water in the hold, and her bottom pierced by a rock. The hole was subsequently plugged, the ship pumped dry, and she left for Stornoway for repairs, but had to be abandoned 10th inst., six miles from the Ushenish Light in a sinking condition.
