Stornoway, Nov. 24 [1881], the vessels which were driven ashore in the gale of Nov. 22 have all been got off, more or less damaged, except the BURNCOOSE and the TELEGRAM. At Crossboat three large herring fishing boats were damaged, one of them, a decked boat, being smashed to pieces. Larebost lost seven cod and ling fishing boats, one of them being carried out to sea. At Knock three boats, and at Sheshadder [Sheshader; Seisadar] two boats, were broken in pieces. At Aird Point four boats were destroyed, and at Portnaguian [Port nan Giuran] three boats were smashed: whilst at Shader one, and at Ganabost two boats were broken to pieces. On the north side of Broad Bay the effects of the storm were very serious, three boats at Tongue, three at Vatsker, and six at Tolsta, being more or less damaged: the majority were broken to pieces. At Carloway [Carlabhagh], on the west side of Lewis, three lifeboats were completely smashed. [Record received incomplete].
NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 5283).
The location and map sheet assigned to this record are essentially tentative.
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably on account of her successful recovery.
